As of two Thursdays ago, I'm fully into the second trimester. According to Baby Center:
How your baby's growing: Your baby weighs about 5 ounces now, and he's around 5 inches long — about the size of a large onion. He can move his joints, and his skeleton — until now rubbery cartilage — is starting to harden to bone. His sense of hearing is also developing.
Not that the second trimester is that big of a deal. It's nice to know that my chances of a miscarriage have dropped. I've never had morning sickness to speak of and I won't start showing (because of excess weight) until I'm five months.
It's been a long time since I've been pregnant. My youngest will be 6 years-old when this baby is born. It's actually odd, but this pregnancy seems more like a first than a fourth! I've gotten ligament pains (which I didn't have with the last two) and I didn't feel the baby move as early as I did with Victoria.
For those who are keeping score, I have two children but three prior pregnancies. Between my oldest and youngest was a still-birth due to chromosomal abnormalities. I was already home on maternity leave when I realized the baby had stopped moving. Both Victoria and now this baby had been tested using chorionic villus sampling (CVS). I am so much more relaxed and I can really enjoy my pregnancy now that I know the baby is chromosomally healthy, instead of being a complete wreck at 38 weeks just wondering. The great side benefit is knowing that this new baby will be a boy so I can start (finally) buying some blue clothes!
